No more removing plates when re-registering
Until now, if you wanted to keep your current registration number when re-registering a car, you had to physically remove the plates and deliver them to the office. From 10 June 2026 this obligation disappears.
Now it is enough to submit a statement confirming that the plates:
- are legible and in good condition,
- have an undamaged legalisation mark,
- are of the current design.
In practice this means a shorter visit to the Vehicle Registration Office and fewer formalities to complete.
Technical inspection — CEPiK is enough
The second important change concerns the technical inspection. When registering a vehicle previously registered in Poland, the office will no longer require a paper certificate of a positive inspection result, provided that information about a valid inspection is available in the Central Vehicle Register (CEPiK).
This reduces the set of documents you need to submit at the counter and speeds up the whole procedure.
Legal basis
The changes result from the amendment to the Road Traffic Law of 7 November 2025 (Dz.U. 2025 item 1734), published in the ISAP system.
